Therapeutic Dilation and Curettage (D/C) :

 What is it?

Therapeutic D&C is a minor surgical procedure where the doctor gently opens the cervix and removes tissue from the inside of the uterus. It is done to treat certain medical conditions. Why is it done? • To remove retained tissue after miscarriage or childbirth • To manage heavy or prolonged bleeding • To remove uterine polyps or small fibroids • To treat molar pregnancy • To clear the uterus after incomplete abortion or miscarriage Possible Side Effects: • Mild abdominal pain or cramping • Spotting or light bleeding • Fatigue or dizziness for a short period When to Call the Doctor: • Heavy bleeding (soaking 1 pad/hour) • Fever over 100.4°F (38°C) • Severe pain or cramps • Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
