:History of Dr. Ali Shariati Hospital

Dr. Ali Shariati Hospital is a university-affiliated teaching, research, and treatment center located in Bandar Abbas, Iran. It specializes in women's health and obstetrics. The hospital's original building has a long history. Initially, it served as the British Consulate before being transformed into the general hospital of Bandar Abbas city, known as Sorayya Hospital. With the opening of Shahid Mohammadi Hospital in 1979, the general hospital was relocated there, and this building became a psychiatric hospital. In 1987, with the establishment of a psychiatry department at Shahid Mohammadi Hospital and a pressing need for a specialized women's and obstetrics center in the county, this hospital was converted into a women's and obstetrics hospital with a capacity of 130 beds. In 2016, following a ministry order and the pursuit of the university's then-president, the women's and obstetrics department was transferred to the Khalij-e-Fars Hospital, and the building was demolished to make way for a new construction. After a four-year hiatus, the new building reopened with a clinic in August 2020. The complete transfer of the hospital's treatment departments took place in early December 2020, with 139 active beds and a total area of 7,031 square meters.
